Dibrugarh: District Transport Office (DTO), Dibrugarh has reported a substantial increase in revenue collection for the financial year 2024-25, with total earnings reaching Rs 92,00,66,371. This represents a 9.5% increase from the previous fiscal year's collection of Rs 84,03,86,939.
District transport officer Hirakjyoti Deka, while announcing the figures, attributed the growth to improved compliance and an uptick in vehicle-related transactions throughout the district.
"We have seen consistent growth in both transport and non-transport vehicle registrations this year, which has significantly contributed to our revenue collection. The implementation of digital services has also made it easier for citizens to complete their transactions and comply with regulations," Deka said.
The revenue has been generated from multiple sources, with non-transport motor vehicle taxes accounting for the largest share at Rs 58.21 crore. Transport vehicle taxes contributed Rs 13.88 crore, while fees for vehicle registration and driving licenses added Rs 8.22 crore to the total.
Compounded fines from traffic violations saw a slight increase of Rs 3.30 lakh compared to the previous year, reaching Rs 10.37 crore in 2024-25. However, arrear tax collection from defaulters decreased significantly by Rs 1.18 crore.
"Our focus has been on streamlining services and ensuring better compliance rather than merely imposing penalties. The decrease in arrear collections actually reflects improved regular tax compliance among vehicle owners," Deka said.
Other significant contributors to this year's revenue include pollution control certification fees (Rs 36.63 lakh), road safety cess (Rs 58.43 lakh) and permit fees (Rs 31.94 lakh).
In the previous financial year 2023-24, the District Transport Office had achieved 91.14% of its targeted revenue of Rs 92.20 crore. This year, the office has exceeded expectations with the collection of over Rs 92 crore.
