Mizoram guv distributes smart boards, aids fire victims in Lawngtlai
Aizawl: Mizoram governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh made his first official visit to state's southernmost Lawngtlai district on Wednesday, engaging with local leaders, officials, and community representatives. During his visit, he distributed smart boards to 14 schools and provided financial assistance to fire victims in Diltlang South village.
Upon arrival at the Lawngtlai district helipad, the governor was welcomed by deputy commissioner Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, superintendent of police R Lokeshwaran, and other officials. A ceremonial guard of honour was presented at the DC's office, attended by adviser to the chief minister Lorrain Lalpekliana Chinzah, MLA Rasik Mohan Chakma, and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) chief executive member V Zirsanga.
In a meeting with legislators, LADC and Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) leaders, govt officials, village council members, and NGOs, the governor praised Numaligarh Refinery Limited for donating smart boards through its CSR initiative. He also acknowledged ITI ltd and its partner, Living Thoughts Organisation, for establishing smart classrooms in the district. Singh emphasised the importance of improving access to quality education, especially for students in remote areas.
The governor highlighted the need for electrification in 13 villages that remain unelectrified, urging collaboration among govt departments, village councils, and NGOs to support underprivileged communities. Addressing concerns about the free movement regime (FMR) along the India-Myanmar border, he clarified that additional security measures have been implemented to address regional instability while ensuring minimal disruption to local communities.
Singh expressed concern over rising drug trafficking along the border and called for joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in Mizoram. He encouraged residents to utilize government welfare schemes and reaffirmed his commitment to the district's development.
During a special session at the DC's Conference Hall, deputy commissioner Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy presented an overview of the district's administration, security situation, key projects, and challenges. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Additional DC James Miahlung.

Later, the governor met with victims of the Diltlang South fire at the DC office chamber, where he instructed the district administration to facilitate their rehabilitation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Through the governor's discretionary grant, he provided Rs 1 lakh each to nine building owners and Rs 5,000 each to nine tenants affected by the fire. The victims expressed their gratitude for his support.
Concluding his visit, Singh held discussions with MLAs and leaders from the LADC and CADC at the DC's Bungalow, focusing on governance and regional challenges.
