The Aam Aadmi Party demanded the resignation of Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra after a city court on Tuesday ordered the registration of an FIR against him to probe his alleged role in the 2020 North-East Delhi communal riots.
“Mishra, for the sake of morality, should step down and be arrested,” said AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj.
He said a fair investigation “could not be expected” while Mr. Mishra remains in the minister post.
The AAP leader alleged that Rouse Avenue Courts ACM Vaibhav Chaurasia, who ordered a fresh FIR against Mr. Mishra, “might face the same fate” as Justice (retired) S. Muralidhar, who was transferred from Delhi High Court for “ordering an FIR against Mishra in 2020”.
Neither the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party nor Mr. Mishra commented over the allegations.
