12 Kuhi nagar sevaks join BJP
Nagpur: Former Umred MLA Raju Parwe engineered an "Operation Lotus" at the local level by managing to convince 12 Kuhi nagar sevaks to join the BJP. These nagar sevaks are from Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar) and still had about two years left in their tenure.
Parwe himself had an eventful 2024, as he switched three parties in the last calendar year. A sitting Congress MLA from Umred, Parwe resigned and joined Shiv Sena to contest as Mahayuti's Lok Sabha candidate from Ramtek. After losing the poll to Congress, Parwe then joined the BJP.
Speaking to TOI, Parwe said, "These 12 nagar sevaks who came over to our side still had tenure left. Nine of them are from Congress while three from NCP (SP)." He denied that an active ‘Operation Lotus' was going on at the grassroot level.
Parwe said, "People are joining us on their own because they know that development in the region can happen only if they are with Mahayuti govt. Opposition is witnessing the transformation in infrastructure across villages ever since our govt took over."
Parwe is confident that two more former committee chairmen will join BJP. "Talks are on and very soon, they will formally join our party," he said.
But each new recruit also brings along the aspiration of continuing in electoral politics. Parwe said, "We have discussed these issues with them and people understand that not everybody will get a chance to contest the next poll."
