Kolkata: With over two out of five automobiles to be exported from India shipped by
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), India's leading automaker registered the highest exports ever, dispatching 3,32,585 cars to overseas markets, up 17.5% over the previous fiscal's exports of 2,83,067 vehicles.
MSIL also rode on its exports performance to register the best-ever fiscal sales at 17.6 lakh vehicles.
This is the fourth year in a row that MSIL has been the largest exporter. During the fiscal, its exports accounted for nearly 43% of India's total vehicle exports.
The export figures helped MSIL register a decent result in 2024-25, which would otherwise have been lacklustre with domestic sales front remaining flat. The company sold 17,60,767 vehicles in 2024-25, only 886 units more than 17,59,881 units sold in 2023-24.
The flat domestic sales are owing to a dip in demand for hatchbacks and sedans, and increased competition in utility vehicles.
On the export front, the leading car models exported by MSIL are Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift and Dzire, with South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Japan and Mexico emerging as the top markets.
MSIL managing director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said: "FY 2024-25 was a landmark year for Maruti Suzuki in terms of exports. We attained record exports... During the year, we commenced exports of Fronx and Jimny 5-door to Japan, and it is heartening that both models received an overwhelming response. This is a testament to India's growing stature as a global manufacturing hub."
MSIL's exports are expected to grow with the company announcing that India would be the global manufacturing hub of Suzuki's first global strategic BEV, the eVitara. In 2025-26, eVitara is set to be exported to around 100 countries, including Europe and Japan.
Maruti Suzuki commenced the export of vehicles from India in 1986. The first large consignment of 500 cars was shipped to Hungary in Sept 1987. The company attained 3 million cumulative exports in Nov 2024. Maruti Suzuki exports 17 models to about 100 countries.
