Begusarai: Begusarai police claimed to have dismantled an interstate cybercrime syndicate on Tuesday with the arrest of six of its members. SP Manish said police recovered several incriminating documents from the suspects, shedding light on their fraudulent operations.
Detailing the operation, the SP said police had received a tip-off on Sunday evening about a dispute among suspected cybercriminals over the division of illicit funds at Koria village, under the Begusarai Mufassil police station area.
"Subsequently, a police team led by Mufassil police station SHO Arbind Kumar Gautam reached the village. However, upon spotting the approaching officers, the suspects, who were seated inside a parked car, attempted to flee. Their escape bid was foiled and all six were arrested," he said.
The police recovered 25 debit cards, eight PAN cards, five Aadhaar cards, nine cheque books, a bank passbook, a voter ID and eight cellphones. "A white car with ‘Magistrate' inscribed on its front was also seized," he added.
The arrested people were identified as Kundan Kumar (36), Swapnil Sharma (34), Keshav Kumar (23), Abhimanyu Kumar (26), Rajiv Ranjan alias Raja (26) and Suryakant Ojha (32). While Kundan and Swapnil hail from Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh, Suryakant Ojha belongs to Bhojpur district of Bihar. The remaining three are residents of the Birpur police station area in Begusarai district.
The SP said the accused had been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in addition to sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, which pertain to
identity theft and cheating through impersonation using computer resources.
