Will bolster BJP in all 40 constituencies: State party president Damodar Naik
Panaji: Amidst tension between BJP and MGP over the alliance for the next assembly election, BJP state president Damodar Naik
on Tuesday said that the party will strengthen its base in all 40 constituencies.
Naik said he submitted a detailed report to the central leadership in the interest of the party and the state, and a decision would be taken by it at the right time. He was responding to a question about whether the party is in favour of a cabinet reshuffle.
“Central leaders will call us. The chief minister and I will meet, and a decision will be taken,” Naik said.
While MGP senior leader and power minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and MGP president Pandurang ‘Deepak’ Dhavalikar met BJP National general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh, Naik held a core committee meeting in Goa. Chief minister Pramod Sawant and other party leaders were present.
“To strengthen the party in all constituencies, BJP held karyakartas’ meetings in some constituencies and will hold them in the remaining constituencies,” Naik said.
When asked about the party’s stand on the alliance for zilla panchayat elections, Naik said, “At the right time, a right decision will be taken, and right now, we have to strengthen our organisation.”
Naik said that decisions on alliances are taken after conducting surveys, discussions with central leaders, and considering other factors. “The decision will be taken after 21 months,” Naik said.
BJP started conducting performance reviews of ministers. Naik said govt is stable, and it will complete its full term in office. Sawant on Saturday said that if he decided to go for a cabinet reshuffle, then it would be purely based on political compulsion and not on performance front.
“The decision to drop one or two ministers from the cabinet would be taken to win the next assembly elections. The party makes decisions to ensure that we win the elections again and to get 27 seats in 2027. I am confident that BJP will win for the fourth term in Goa,” Sawant had said.
