Three consecutive fire incidents reported in Ludhiana, no casualties
Ludhiana: On Tuesday, fire officials remained on their toes as two to three back-to-back fire incidents were reported in the city. Fire officials took almost two hours to control each one. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
One incident took place in an open plot where a large quantity of hosiery waste had been stored. In the second incident, a trolley full of stubble waste came in contact with high-tension electricity lines while in the third incident, a waste material godown was destroyed in a fire.
In the first case, fire officials received information about hosiery waste stored in the open in Shakti Nagar, catching fire at around 9.50am. The highly flammable material caught fire suddenly. While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, firemen said that such waste, when kept in the open, is prone to sparks, which can cause fire.
Fire officials said that five fire tenders were used to douse the flames, and the fire was controlled in two hours. Mayor Inderjit Kaur, who reached the spot, also underlined the danger of open storage of hosiery waste and said that officials would convince people not to do it. However, such cases of fire are common in the city, where hosiery waste is often stored in the open without any safety measures.
In the second incident, a tractor trolley overloaded with stubble waste caught fire after accidental contact with high-tension wires on Chandigarh Road near Ramgarh. Fire officials came to know about the incident at around 11.45am. This time too, they took almost two hours to control the fire because of the large quantity of stubble in the trolley.
The third incident took place in the market area behind Preet Palace in a godown full of waste material, including plastic goods, at around 12.25pm. Fire officials said that had they not controlled the fire on time, it would have spread to adjoining shops. The fire brigade took two hours and used five fire tenders to douse the flames.
When contacted, sub-fire officer Aatish Rai said that they controlled the flames on time and no casualty was reported. He urged residents to follow fire safety norms and avoid storing flammable goods in the open.
