Toddler abducted, rescued by grandpa; accused arrested

Kanpur: A man allegedly abducted a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler on Tuesday. The child's grandfather, while searching for the child, found the perpetrator with the child in a vacant plot and tried to rescue the child. Hearing the chaos, locals reached the site and caught the accused. They bound his hands with a rope and assaulted him before handing him over to the authorities.
Rajeev Vihar (62) of Naubasta said that his grandson was playing outside the house on Tuesday afternoon while he went indoors to drink water. Upon his return, he found the child missing. He began searching the vicinity. Passing a vacant plot, he heard his grandson's cries and found his neighbour, Raju Pal, with the child. Rajeev scaled the wall and took the child. The accused attacked Rajeev and attempted to strangle the child.
Hearing Rajeev's call for help, the neighbours reached the scene. They caught the accused and assaulted him before alerting the police.
Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh reported that the accused reportedly suffers from mental health issues and is receiving treatment. "The child's family has registered a complaint, and appropriate action will follow the investigation's findings," he said.
