Amazon has introduced a new AI-powered feature called Interests, aimed at transforming how users discover and shop for products aligned with their hobbies and passions. Designed to simplify the experience of staying updated on new releases, Interests is currently available to a small group of customers in the US via the Amazon Shopping app and mobile website. The feature allows users to create personalised shopping prompts in natural language, describing exactly what they’re looking for.
Once a prompt is created, Interests works continuously in the background, scanning Amazon’s extensive catalogue and notifying users when relevant new items, restocks, or deals appear. The AI uses large language models to interpret user input and translate it into actionable search attributes, identifying relevant brands, styles, materials, and price points. This allows it to surface specific and personalised recommendations that would be difficult to achieve with traditional search engines, the company said in a media release.
Users can access the feature by opening the Amazon Shopping app, navigating to the ‘Me’ tab, and tapping the ‘Interests’ button. From there, they can create detailed prompts, edit them at any time to adjust preferences such as colour, material, or price range, and receive ongoing updates directly within the app. Whether someone is interested in ‘feminine, cottage-like home décor under $100’ or the ‘latest pickleball accessories,’ the tool adapts to a wide range of niche and mainstream interests.
Interests is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to integrate AI into the shopping experience. Alongside tools like Rufus, AI Shopping Guides, and review highlights, the company is leaning into generative AI to automate product discovery, simplify evaluation, and boost customer confidence. A wider rollout is planned in the coming months, with the feature set to become available to more US customers.
