Gandhinagar mayor wants ‘ban’ on non-veg stalls
Ahmedabad: Gandhinagar mayor Meera Patel wrote to the municipal commissioner on Friday requesting for closure of all non-vegetarian stalls, egg shops and slaughterhouses in the city for 14 days during Chaitra Navratri. The commissioner is yet to take a call in this regard.
The mayor’s letter stated: “Chaitra Navratri is a major Hindu festival during which devotees worship the goddess for nine days. Keeping this in mind, temples across Gandhinagar will host special celebrations. Since this is a time of devotion, selling egg or non-vegetarian items is not appropriate. So, I request the closure of non-vegetarian and egg stalls.”
