Shashi Tharoor joins viral Ghibli trend: 'Consider me officially spirited away!'
NEW DELHI: Shashi Tharoor has jumped on the viral Ghibli-style image trend sweeping social media. Sharing AI-generated artwork of himself on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor captioned the post: "I’ve been assimilated into the Ghibli trend! These are pics sent by my supporters and well-wishers. Didn’t even know what Ghibli was till now, but consider me officially Spirited Away by this newfound revelation!"

The trend, inspired by Studio Ghibli’s iconic art style, has exploded since OpenAI’s GPT-4o update. Users are generating anime-inspired versions of photos and memes using ChatGPT’s image tool.
OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recently confirmed that the feature, currently available only to paid subscribers, will be rolled out to free users soon.
Studio Ghibli, known for classics like My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, is celebrated for its soft pastels, detailed artwork, and emotional depth. AI enthusiasts are now using OpenAI’s advanced tools to recreate this aesthetic, bringing famous personalities like Tharoor into the mix.
