Effectively utilize SPC in anti-drug campaigns: CM
T'puram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the effective utilization of student police cadets (SPC) in anti-drug campaigns at a review meeting of the project on Friday. Police and excise officers should serve as school-level trainers against drugs in their respective areas. An action plan will be developed to augment SPC, involving experts from agencies like SPC, SCERT, State Institute of Educational Management and Training, IMG and Kila in action plan development workshops, he said.
"The criteria for selecting students should not be limited to academic excellence. Interested students should be selected based on eligibility. Schools in coastal and backward areas should be given priority in this project," he said.
A permissible sum from local self-govt institutions' development funds should be made available to schools implementing SPC project. All schools implementing the project should have access to teachers and police officers for training. The additional chief secretary of home department and the principal secretary of general education department will ensure the same, he added.
SCERT has been asked to plan activities for the academic year 2025-26 and prepare a training calendar in consultation with several agencies. As part of SPC total health programme, the services of doctors should be ensured for training them in pain and palliative care and emergency first aid procedures, he said.
