Tadoba Goes For Ease Of Tourism, Allows Pay & Jump Queue For Safari Vehicles, Upgrades Full-Day Safari
Chandrapur: In a bid to enhance the safari experience and streamline tourist movement, authorities at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) have introduced key reforms, including an extended gypsy jumping pattern, special facilities for full-day safaris, and relaxed entry rules for tourists arriving late at night. These decisions were taken in a recent meeting between TATR officials and resort owners.
Addressing long-standing demands, officials approved the implementation of the gypsy jumping pattern in buffer zones, a system that allows presidential gypsy vehicles to operate in place of gypsy having its turn, with due payment of charges, for better tourist experience. This move is expected to improve safari experience and reduce dependency on limited vehicles in certain zones.
For full-day safaris, authorities said that a single entry and exit, with breaks in between, will now be allowed in both core and buffer areas. The Resort Association requested that tourists be allowed to visit the Kolsa zone, as the Pangdi core area is relatively small for a full-day safari. The deputy directors (of both core and buffer areas) will submit a report on the full-day tourism zones at each gate of the TATR, following the demand.
Additionally, the Resort Association has been allowed to prepare a list of upgraded gypsy vehicles for full-day safaris, which will be available on the booking website, allowing tourists to choose vehicles in a rotational manner. To enhance convenience, full-day safari bookings will soon be made available online.
In another significant decision, tourists with confirmed resort bookings will now be allowed entry through Padmapur and Kondegaon gates during restricted hours after 10pm. However, tourists will be required to present proof of booking to avail of this facility. Resort owners have been instructed to inform their guests about entry regulations to avoid inconvenience.
The meeting also focused on tourism management and conservation efforts. Authorities approved revised safari timings, extending morning and evening slots during the summer months for visitor convenience. Additionally, online payment of camera fees will soon be enabled, addressing a major concern raised by tourists.
Efforts to curb noise and light pollution will be reinforced, with resort owners being directed to limit sound levels during indoor and outdoor events. The Resort Association has been given 30 days to ensure compliance with these measures.
On the waste management front, all resorts must now adopt structured disposal practices. The association will approach local authorities for better waste collection services, while the TATR will conduct awareness programmes on responsible waste disposal.
To promote eco-friendly practices, officials also discussed the Green Rating system under the Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE). A list of environmentally responsible resorts will be published online to encourage sustainable tourism.
Concerns over the availability of immediate quota permits at certain entry points were acknowledged, with officials assuring to resolve technical glitches. Additionally, the booking system will soon display RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) status to help tourists track their waiting list positions.
In response to safety concerns, authorities have agreed to allow limited fencing around resorts using bamboo or organic materials to prevent wildlife intrusion. Also, anti-venom will be made available at key locations, and snakebite workshops will be organised for staff and tourists.
To streamline communication, the Resort Association will now nominate four representatives to attend future meetings with TATR officials. All senior officials of TATR and representatives of resorts were present during the meeting.
