The Tumakuru Women Police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old truck driver for allegedly killing his three-year-old stepson.
According to the police, the accused identified as Chandrasekhar made up a story that the death was caused by snake bite before performing the last rites on Sunday.
The curious villagers grew suspicious and informed the police. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Chandrashekhar after a detailed questioning.
The accused was married to the victim’s mother, Kavya, after she separated from her first husband. The victim, Mithun Gowda was Kavya’s son from her first husband. The accused allegedly always had a grudge against the victim and wanted to get rid of him. Last Thursday, when Kavya went to work at the garment factory, leaving Mithun with Chandrashekhar, he allegedly decided to kill him.
The accused told police that Mithun was pestering him, asking for ice cream. Enraged by this, he allegedly rammed the victim’s head against the wall a couple of times police said. He later raised an alarm that a snake had bitten Mithun, and with the help of a neighbour, he took him to the nearby clinic, where the doctor declared him dead.
