Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president T. Siddique, MLA, said here on Wednesday that his party would never permit setting up a brewery in Elapully panchayat, where the people were facing a severe water shortage.

He warned that the agitation against the brewery would be strengthened if the government did not withdraw from the move to generate liquor by ignoring the drinking water needs of the people.

He said the government invited Oasis Commercial, a company that had gained notoriety by exploiting water in some places in the north, with the sole objective of collecting kickbacks. He asked the government to release the detailed project report of the liquor plant.

Mr. Siddique was inaugurating the valedictory session of the 100-hour satyagraha staged by Karshaka Congress State president Majoosh Mathew at Anjuvilakku junction here.

Karshaka Congress vice-president G. Sivarajan presided over the function. KPCC general secretary C. Chandran, Karshaka Congress district president B. Iqbal, Satheesh Pazhakulam, Geevarghese, Ravi Polivalappil, Tomy Palakkadan, M.C. Varghese, U. Santhakumar, Thomas Kutty, Thomsan Lawrence, Roy Thankachan, Joji Edakunnil and Mini Vinod spoke.
