The Gubbi police on Monday arrested two members of the Ojikuppam gang involved in five attention diversion cases in and around the district.

The arrested accused were identified as Shiva Gopal, 44, a mason from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, and Subramanya Mani, 38, a construction labourer.

In January this year, the accused, along with others, robbed Shivaram, a businessman, of ₹15 lakh cash. The victim was on his way to the office of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) after withdrawing the case from the SBI Nittur branch. The accused followed Shivaram from the bank, stopped him midway, broke open the windshield and later escaped after stealing the cash.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the Gubbi police kept a watch on the accused and later nabbed the duo. The police also recovered cash and gold valuables worth ₹16 lakh from them.

The police said that the duo are habitual offenders involved in over five cases in and around the Tumakuru district. The police have warned the people to be more careful while handling cash.
