Karnataka Nataka Academy, Shivamogga Rangayana and amateur artists of Shivamogga, have jointly organised a day-long theatre activity on Thursday, March 27, to mark World Theatre Day. The activities include the presentation of theatre songs, exhibition of illustration art, staging of a play in a moving bus, and a theatre demonstration, among others.

At a press conference in Shivamogga on Tuesday, Shivamogga Rangayana director Prasanna D. Sagar said that two artists would stage a play titled ‘KA 16 F 452’ – in a moving bus. The play was based on a short story written by Shivakumar Mavali. “The play will be staged in a private bus commuting between Shivamogga and Savalanga. The artists will stage the play amidst the passengers as the bus moves. The bus will leave the private bus stand at 11 a.m. on the day,” he said.

Those interested in watching the play on the bus could get on and take a ticket to Savalanga. “There is no entry ticket to watch the play. However, theatre lovers have to buy passenger tickets,” said Honnali Chandrashekhar, one of the organisers of the event.

The activities will be held at different locations. The theatre songs will be presented at Freedom Park at 7 a.m., at Nehru Stadium at 8 a.m., at Basaveshwara Circle at 9 a.m., and at Sahyadri College at 1 p.m. An art exhibition will be held on the premises of Vakilara Bhavana, Shivamogga City Corporation and Jayanagara Police Station.

The day-long event will conclude with a stage programme and staging of a play at Kuvempu Rangamandira at 6.30 p.m. The organisers will felicitate theatre personalities to mark the day. Mudukana Maduve, a play, will be staged on the occasion.

Theatre personalities Kanthesh Kadaramandalagi, R.S. Halaswamy and others were present at the press conference.
