A district-level buyer-seller meet for products made by self-help groups was organised in Dindigul on Tuesday.
According to a press release, there were 13,950 self-help groups in Dindigul district - 9,823 in rural areas and 4,127 in urban areas. Sellers and buyers meet were being held to market their products. The products that were on display included handicrafts, saris, traditional clay dolls, Kodaikanal malai poondu (hill garlic) and homemade chocolates, Sirumalai pepper, Thandikudi cardamom, jute products, honey and organic products.
Women self-help groups from 14 blocks in the district participated in the meet that facilitated business contracts worth ₹2.5 crore.
Speaking at the event, Collector S. Saravanan said the SHG products were of high quality and reliable. Many companies participated in the event and through them a better marketing opportunity was created for the SHGs, he said and urged the self-help group members to make the most of such opportunities to improve their livelihood.
