As many as 17 goats were killed in an attack by stray dogs in Anthiyur on Tuesday.

Shanmugam and his wife Pappammal reside in Chinnathambi Palayam, where they rear cows and 30 goats. They kept their livestock in a fenced area on vacant land near their house. Two days ago, one of their goats went missing from the enclosure. Assuming it had wandered off, the couple did not suspect anything unusual. The next day, another goat disappeared.

On Tuesday morning, the couple found 17 goats dead. As the news spread, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Some speculated that unidentified animals could have been responsible for the attack.

Village Administrative Officer Manikandan and personnel from the Anthiyur police station inspected the site. Staff from the Anthiyur Forest Range office also examined the area but initially found no pugmarks of wild animals. However, upon further inspection, forest officials and a veterinarian identified dog paw prints inside the enclosure.

Following an investigation, it was confirmed that stray dogs had killed the goats. The couple have sought compensation from the government for the loss of livestock.
