Jaipur: Besides relocating the bus stop at Narayan Singh Circle to Transport Nagar, the state govt has decided to initiate operations at Heerapura bus terminal by early May. This would reduce movement of many buses from Ajmer side to Sindhi Camp area.
The decision was undertaken during the Traffic Control Board meeting of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Thursday.
An official said, "The govt plans to inaugurate the newly constructed Heerapura bus terminal as soon as possible. For this the state govt needs to undergo a procedure encompassing at least three rounds of meetings. On Thursday, it was decided that the transport department shall commence the procedures with immediate effect so that operations from this terminal can begin by early May.
Subsequently, regional transport officer (RTO) Rajendra Singh Shekhawat has scheduled a meeting Tuesday with private bus operators and officials of Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC). The meeting will include officials of the Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) and representatives of e-rickshaw, tempo and city bus associations.
Officials said these associations and JCTSL have been summoned to facilitate last mile connectivity for passengers utilising this bus stand.
While the govt had planned to develop Heerapura bus terminal into a bus terminal-cum-commercial hub, they are presently compelled to commence operations from the bus terminal immediately owing to pressure from the traffic police and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Officials said police and NHAI aim to decongest the 200-feet Bypass Crossing. Daily, many buses travelling towards Ajmer-side on the Ajmer Expressway obstruct the flank of the crossing to pickup passengers.
