Lucknow: Paying rich tributes to socialist ideologue Ram Manohar Lohia on his birth anniversary,
Samajwadi Party president
Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the party is committed to carrying forward Lohia's fight for economic justice and social equality.
Speaking during the programme at Lohia Park in Gomtinagar, Akhilesh said, "Lohia taught us to stand against injustice and inequality. He gave us the principles of Saptakranti (Seven Revolutions) and the ‘Price Control' movement to fight inflation and economic disparities."
"Under the BJP govt, we see inflation at its peak, rise in unemployment, and economic inequality. Farmers are in distress, and the working class is struggling to make ends meet. The SP will continue to fight for the people's rights," he said.
Talking to reporters, he rubbished the UP govt's claim of "zero-tolerance" towards corruption, alleging that top officials and ruling party were involved in large-scale graft.
Without taking any names, he said: "There are reports that an IAS officer, against whom serious corruption allegations exist, is hiding. This raises serious questions about the so-called ‘zero tolerance' policy of the govt," Yadav said.
"The govt's pro-corporate policies have burdened small businesses, farmers, and the middle class with unfair taxation, job losses, and skyrocketing prices. If we truly want to honour Lohia, we must continue his battle against these injustices," he added.
He also paid homage to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev.
