Police call for better safety measures at Bowenpally vegetable market

Published - March 24, 2025 06:54 pm IST - HYDERABAD

Access control, CCTV surveillance, improved lighting, drug abuse prevention, and cyber crime awareness were among the key concerns highlighted during the coordination meeting conducted by the North Zone Police with members of Bowenpally Vegetable Market Yard Association on Monday.

The meeting was aimed to assess security measures and address ongoing concerns within the market premises. Market office-bearers were urged to reinforce access control by ensuring that all workers and vehicles were issued passes, with a record maintained for monitoring entry and exit. Preventing unauthorised access was identified as a crucial step towards enhancing security and maintaining order in the market yard.

A major concern raised during the discussion was the inadequate surveillance system. Out of the existing 35 CCTV cameras, only 16 were found to be operational. The need for additional CCTV installations and improved lighting in dark corners was strongly emphasised to enhance monitoring and deter criminal activities. Traders were also encouraged to install cameras around their own establishments and retain footage for at least 30 days to aid in investigations if required.

Another pressing issue addressed was drug abuse and open consumption of alcohol within the market premises. Strict measures to curb such activities, ensuring a safe environment for traders, farmers, and customers were discussed. The rise in cyber crime incidents was also discussed, with market stakeholders being urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in tackling online fraud and security breaches.

North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmi Perumal highlighted the importance of maintaining the safety and integrity of Bowenpally Market Yard, which plays a significant role in the agricultural trade of Telangana.

The meeting saw the participation of market chairman, secretary, president, principal of the Agriculture Training Institute, senior officials from the police force and approximately 200 attendees.
