Happy Streets: Coimbatore’s Race Course hosts special edition to mark International Day of Happiness
Coimbatore: Race Course came alive on Sunday with thousands of people gathering on the otherwise busy stretch filled with vehicles to unwind at the special edition of Happy Streets that was held to mark the International Day of Happiness. It was a celebration of fun, fitness and community spirit.
For two hours, residents enjoyed nonstop fun and entertainment in a traffic-free, honk-free environment. The event began at 6.30am with a yoga session by Pranava Yoga Academy, followed by a zumba session led by Adham Master. Other highlights included folk dance performance by Sudar, contemporary dance performance by SDA Dance, band performance by Strums N Hums and DJ music by Rohith. These stage events kept the participants engaged.
The event also featured off-stage activities like karlakattai training, a traditional Indian exercise using wooden clubs. Participants of all ages also enjoyed traditional games, cycle stunts by Arun, paper plane making, postcard writing by Varnam, nail art, Casagrand's Snake and Ladder game, and face painting.
The First Heart Foundations Network, meanwhile, provided free CPR and first aid training, along with disaster management sessions.
K J Rithesh, of Ramanathapuram, who attended the event with his family, said his children particularly enjoyed the traditional games, Snake and Ladder, and paper plane making.
R Kanishka, a college student, expressed her excitement about experiencing the event with her friends.
Happy Streets is a joint initiative by the Times of India, the city corporation, police and Smart City. The event was presented by Casagrand, with SSVM Institutions as the education partner, Savorit as the associate sponsor, Pranava Yoga Academy as the yoga partner, Sankara Educational Institution as the volunteering partner, and First Heart Foundations Network as the medical partner.
