The English Literary Club of the Department of English at Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, conducted an event - Mercy or Law: A Courtroom Clash, which saw the enactment of a scene from William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, on March 20. The event was marked by passionate performances from the first-year students, followed by an insightful musical rendition that added a unique dimension to the gathering. R. Saranya, HoD (in charge), welcomed the gathering. Sarojaa V Kumar, Assistant Professor of English, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai, was the chief guest. She commended the students for their engaging performance and their ability to bring Shakespeare’s complex themes of justice, mercy, and law to life. She offered constructive suggestions and tips to further enhance their acting skills, encouraging them to continue exploring classical literature with creativity and passion. The event was organised by Literary Club Coordinators Muthumurugan and Merlin. The students showcased not only their acting prowess but also their understanding of the intricate moral dilemmas presented in the courtroom scene. The performance was complemented by a beautiful singing session by the first-year students. The event served as a platform for fostering literary talent and creativity.
