Malpe harbour assault: Another suo motu case registered for provocative speech
Udupi: Malpe police filed another suo motu case in connection with the Malpe harbour assault incident. A case was filed against activist Manju Kola for making provocative speeches at the gathering. Following the incident wherein a woman was tied to a tree and assaulted recently, the Malpe Fishermen's Association, along with other major fishing unions, organised a protest meeting at the Malpe harbour on March 22.
Police said while addressing the gathering, Manju Kola reportedly delivered an inflammatory speech under the guise of a public address, referring to the possibility of blocking the national highway. He allegedly incited the crowd with hateful and provocative statements, intentionally stirring emotions and encouraging the public to commit such acts despite being aware of the potential consequences. He reportedly challenged the SP.
In this regard, a suo motu case was registered at Malpe police station under sections 57, 191(1), and 192 of the BNS. Investigation is on. Earlier, a suo motu case was filed against former minister Pramod Madhwaraj for delivering a provocative speech.
