Ayyampettai police arrest man for spreading fake news

The Ayyampettai police have arrested Saravanakarthi, 43, of Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district for spreading false information with respect to the appointment of a Hindu temple trustee board member.

According to police, a message that a person belonging to a minority community had been appointed as a trustee in a Hindu temple trustee board in Thanjavur district was widely circulated in the social media platforms recently.

Subsequently, Nargeeskhan of Neduntheru hamlet in Ayyampettai Police Station limit uploaded a video in social media stating that he was a Hindu by birth and his parents named him as ‘Nargeeskhan’ since a person from a minority religion community assisted his mother in ensuring a normal delivery.

The Ayyampettai police formed a special team after receiving a complaint from Nargeeskhan and the special team arrested Saravanakarthi in Chennai on March 23, the police said.
