Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday said that the DMK will always support the political rights of Muslims and safeguard the community.

“Whenever there has been a political threat to the Muslim community, the DMK has acted to safeguard the members. The DMK will never allow the BJP government’s disruptive plans to be implemented,” he said speaking at an ‘Iftar’ organised by his party in Thiruvanmiyur.

Mr. Stalin pointed out a sum of ₹405 crore had been provided in the last four years for various welfare schemes for the minority community and listed out various schemes, including the recent announcement that Tamil Nadu Hajj House would be constructed in Nanganallur.

He also pointed out that the AIADMK voted in favour of Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Rajya Sabha. “It would not have become a law if the AIADMK had voted against the Bill,” Mr. Stalin said. DMK and its allies voted against the Bill and also protested in the public forum, he added

“After acting against the interests of the Muslim community, without any shame now, the former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami is participating in Iftar parties,” Mr. Stalin charged. The DMK also opposed the Uniform Civil Code, he said and added that the party would move the Supreme Court if the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill became a law.
