‘One Road, One Circle’ plan: Maintenance of 14 key stretches in focus
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairman Keshav Chandra conducted an inspection on Saturday to assess the progress of the ‘One Road, One Circle' initiative. The scheme focuses on the comprehensive repair, greening, and upkeep of 14 selected roads across the 14 NDMC divisions over the span of 10-15 days.
During the inspection of Mandir Marg and Kali Bari Marg, the chairman issued directives to various departments, urging a thorough and coordinated approach to road maintenance and enhancement. "The health department is responsible for sanitation, while the engineering department is handling repairs, with a 15-day deadline for completion. Key tasks include the repair of interlocking pavers, kerb stones, and concrete flooring to improve durability and safety. Additionally, all pucca portions will be cleaned weekly with treated water to maintain cleanliness," said an NDMC official.
The action plan for March 20-29 targets 14 key roads, including Radial Road (2, 3, 4, and 5 in Connaught Place), Pehswa Road, Talkatora Road, Tansen Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Kali Bari Marg, Maulana Azad Road, Maharishi Raman Marg, Jor Bagh Road, Satya Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Shanti Path (Moti Bagh Side), Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, and C Hexagon (Shershah to Shahjahan Road).
This collaborative approach, with daily inspections by senior officers, aims to ensure quality and prioritise urgent issues. Scheduled activities include repairing roads and footpaths, restoring kerb stones, fixing channels, and replacing damaged gully gratings and slabs. Additional tasks include road sweeping, cleaning green spaces, maintaining litter bins, desilting, and debris removal.
Horticultural work will focus on planting new greenery, maintaining existing plants, pruning trees, and ensuring proper watering.
The enforcement department will remove hanging cables, unauthorised encroachments, and illegally parked vehicles, while the electrical department will repair streetlights, loose wires, and distribution panels. Senior officials will monitor all tasks, with jetting machines and anti-smog guns deployed thrice during sanitation activities to minimise pollution.
"These initiatives will significantly improve both the functionality and aesthetics of these roads, contributing to the broader goal of making the city cleaner, greener, and more sustainable," said the NDMC official.
