Tamil Nadu, Karnataka make the women’s final

Top-scorer A. Nikitha (28 points) helped Tamil Nadu defeat Kerala 70-61 in the women’s semifinals of the National under-23 basketball championships at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu will face Karnataka, which got past Delhi in the other last-four clash, in the final.

Haryana rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Karnataka, which led in third and fourth periods after sharing honours in the first, 84-70 and set up a summit clash with Punjab, which defeated Rajasthan, in the men’s section.

The results: Semifinals: Men: Haryana 84 (Sahil Sharma 21, G. Deependar 15) bt Karnataka 70 (B.M. Manoj 21, K.P. Dinesh 15); Punjab 107 (Manpreet Singh 28, Aman Sandhu 24) bt Rajasthan 101 (Akshit Hooda 35, Ayush Choudhary 24).

Women: Karnataka 84 (Niharika Reddy 27, Mekhala Gowda 18) bt Delhi 48 (Rashi Kotani 21); Tamil Nadu 70 (A. Nithika 28, Amritha Varshini 15) bt Kerala 61 (Akshaya Philip 27, Irin Elsa John 12).
