Gangster hacked to death near Madurai

A 37-year-old gangster, P. Kaleeswaran, was hacked to death at Thanakkankulam under Perungudi police station limits in Madurai district on Saturday (March 22, 2025) night.

The deceased, who belonged to a gang of Madurai Corporation ex-zonal chairman V.K. Gurusamy, had history sheet in Keeraithurai police station in Madurai city.

The police said that Kaleeswaran was living in Mela Anupanadi. A month ago, his wife had moved to a new house at Venkalamoorthi Nagar. Kaleeswaran had come to meet her on Saturday evening.

When he came out of his house to go to a shop, an armed gang that was waiting, hacked him to death around 9.30 p.m.

The four-member gang inflicted multiple cut injuries on his body. The assailants then fled in two motorbikes.

The police said that Kaleeswaran had been booked in several criminal cases, including two murders.

The body was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem.
