Gurgaon sees hottest day of season, mercury to soar by 2°C over next 3 days
Gurgaon: On Sunday, the city experienced its hottest day of the season as the maximum temperature soared to 33.7 degrees Celsius. This marked an increase of 2.7 degrees from the previous day and 3.4 degrees above the season's normal.
The minimum temperature reached 15.7 degrees Celsius, up by 0.5 degrees from the normal for this time of the season and marginally higher than Saturday's minimum of 15.4 degrees.
According to an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to rise by two degrees over the next three days.
While a relatively moderate humidity level of 44% provided some relief on Sunday, experts caution that rising temperatures combined with worsening air quality will lead to growing discomfort.
At a 'moderate' 142, Sunday's air quality index (AQI) improved significantly from Saturday's 202 (poor).
However, the current AQI still poses risks for sensitive groups and outdoor activities, said health experts.
"Prolonged exposure to poor air quality, especially when AQI is above 200, can lead to breathing discomfort for most people," warned a health expert.
The CPCB categorises AQI between zero and 50 as ‘good', 51-100 as ‘satisfactory', 101-200 as ‘moderate', 201-300 as ‘poor', 301-400 as ‘very poor', and 401-500 as ‘severe'.
