Deficiency in service costs paint firm 1 lakh
Coimbatore: The district consumer disputes redressal commission has directed a paint firm to pay a compensation of Rs1 lakh to a customer for providing low quality paint and poor service.
According to an official source, P Kesavan, of Ganapathy, approached the Nippon Paints branch office at Appanaickenpalayam to paint his new house in December 2022. He paid Rs2.97 lakh for the service.
However, during the painting process, Kesavan visited the house and noticed several deficiencies. The colour he chose was altered, workers had wasted paint and parts of the building and doors were damaged. The workers not only didn't clean the house after completing the work, but also left their materials, including used paint from another brand, behind, the source said.
Kesavan informed the Nippon Paints branch office about the issues, and they assured him that the deficiencies would be addressed. However, no action was taken. Kesavan also sent a legal notice to the firm, but in vain, the source said.
Following this, he filed a petition with the district consumer disputes redressal commission. In its ruling, commission president R Thangavel and members P Marimuthu and G Suguna ordered the paint firm to pay a compensation of Rs lakh to Kesavan and another Rs5,000 towards the cost of legal proceedings.
