A car driver S. Mathiazhagan, 37, was killed and three passengers were injured when the speeding car dashed against a stationary truck on New Natham Road Elevated Corridor near DRO Colony on Thursday.

The police said that the driver had picked up a family of five from Chennai from Madurai Railway junction and taken them to Alagarkoil.

While returning to the railway station, the car was speeding on the elevated corridor above DRO Colony.

The driver failed to notice a truck parked on the right lane due to tyre burst. The car rammed behind the truck in which the driver was killed on the spot. Among the passengers, Vediappan, his wife, Valliammal and their daughter-in-law, Gomathi, suffered injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in the city.
