US woman accuses teacher running HP Tibetan healing centre of rape
Kullu: A case was registered on Wednesday against a religious teacher running a Tibetan healing centre at McLeodganj for allegedly raping a US national of Indian origin five months back. The accused has also filed a complaint of blackmail against her
Police said a case of rape was registered at the women's police station in Dharamshala after preliminary investigation.
In her complaint to the police, the woman said she met the accused Tibetan teacher, who was her husband's guru, when she came to Dharamshala in Oct 2023 to study Buddhist philosophy. The complaint further said that she fell ill in Nov 2024, and the Tibetan teacher raped her on Nov 2 on the pretext of healing her through tantric practices. Her husband was in Bodh Gaya at that time, she said.
She claimed that she shifted to a nearby village soon after. However, when she, along with her husband, moved back to Dharamshala in March, the accused allegedly began to threaten her, and she then filed a complaint against him. Her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code on Thursday, and her medical examination was carried out.
Kangra superintendent of police Shalini Agnihotri said, "We are thoroughly investigating the case and inquiring into all aspects as the complainant approached the police about five months after the alleged incident. Both the complainant and accused have also changed their statements. The questioning of the accused is under way, and only after collecting all evidence, we will take further legal action."
The SP added that the accused also filed a complaint alleging that he was being blackmailed by her.
