Bikaner trader, wife and daughter found dead at Home
Jaipur: A trader, his wife, and their 18-year-old daughter were found dead inside their home in Bikaner's Jayanarayan Vyas Colony Wednesday night. While the trader was found hanging in his room, the bodies of his wife and daughter were lying on the floor of the hall outside the room.
Police suspect that the three had been dead for the past 10-15 days, given the condition of the bodies. Police are yet to determine whether the trader died by suicide after murdering his wife and daughter or if all three took their own lives. They are awaiting post-mortem and viscera reports to determine the cause of death.
The businessman, identified as 50-year-old Nitin Khatri, was found hanging in his room, while the bodies of his wife, Rajni (45), and daughter, Jessica (18), were found outside. Nitin owned a shop selling sanitary and electronics items near his home. Police officials said that the family distanced themselves from relatives and did not mingle much with neighbours. Officers are recording statements from neighbours to understand what may have led Nitin to take such a drastic step.
Police from the Jayanarayan Vyas Colony station reached the house in Vallabh Garden around 11 pm on Wednesday after neighbours reported a foul smell coming from inside. According to Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Vishal Jangid, the advanced state of decomposition indicated that the deaths occurred several days earlier.
"We suspect that the deaths took place at least 10-15 days ago. When we reached there, the house was bolted from inside," said the officer. A forensic team was called in, and the bodies were sent to PBM Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Nitin Khatri lived in the house with his family for many years. Neighbours told police that his business was doing well, ruling out financial distress as a possible motive. His wife, Rajni, often helped him at the shop, while their daughter, Jessica, was a Class 12 commerce student.
"We have learned that the family kept to themselves. Relatives have not been able to shed much light on any possible motive. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. It is difficult to determine how Rajni and Jessica died. Whether it was poisoning or strangulation will only be clear after we receive the post-mortem and viscera reports," said the officer.
Nitin's younger brother, Amit, who also runs an electronics store in Bikaner, was in Goa at the time and was informed about the tragedy late at night. On Thursday, the bodies were taken to PBM Hospital for post-mortem. On Thursday evening, the last rituals of the three bodies were performed.
