Rly stns being upgraded in Chandauli
Varanasi: Apart from Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (PDDU) Junction (Mughalsarai), Majhwar railway station in Chandauli district is also undergoing extension and upgrading its capacity and passenger facilities.
A day after railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday provided details of ongoing works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) for these stations in Chandauli district, the East Central Railway's PDDU division spokesman released a report on such works in the Lok Sabha.
According to the report, after Chandauli's inclusion in ABSS, the process of developing Majhwar railway station started with the awarding of tenders for works such as the extension of the station building, construction of a new foot overbridge, additional platform shelters, extension of platforms and improvement of the circulating area, parking area and toilets.
Master planning for the development of PDDU Junction under ABSS has been initiated. A subway between Dhina and Tulsi Ashram in the Patna-Deen Dayal Upadhyay section has been sanctioned. The construction of a road overbridge (ROB) in lieu of a level crossing in Kuchaman yard of Danapur division has also been sanctioned.
ABSS envisages the development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach. It involves the preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve amenities at the stations, such as the improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts/escalators as necessary, platform surfacing and cover over platforms, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product', better passenger information systems, executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, etc, keeping in view the necessity at each station.
So far, 1,337 stations have been identified for development under ABSS, out of which 157 stations are located in Uttar Pradesh.
