Dog meat found in momo-making unit of Punjab’s Mohali? DC says it is all just rumours
Mohali: Mohali's district health officer Dr Amrit Warring on Wednesday clarified that no dog meat has been recovered from a momo and spring roll factory in the city, and reports about the recovery of a dog's head are also false. "We have sent the samples for testing," he added.
Earlier in the day, deputy commissioner Komal Mittal said in a press statement, "Meat recovered from the kitchen has been wrongly mentioned as dog meat. People must refrain from spreading rumours. We have sent the items for testing, and the report will be out soon."
Taking a serious view of unhygienic conditions at the kitchen, deputy commissioner Mittal said that strict action will be taken in this regard. "It's a matter of human lives," she added.
Divulging details, the deputy commissioner said that after a raid by the food safety, health, and MC teams on the premises situated in Mataur area on Sunday, various samples of eatables, including vegetables and other items, were lifted for further investigation.
Ordering an FIR against the owners of the kitchen, the deputy commissioner urged the Mohali SSP to take immediate legal action against the culprits and start further investigation. Meanwhile, the district police lodged an FIR against the accused under Sections 272 and 274 of BNS, added SSP Deepak Pareek.
Deputy commissioner Komal Mittal further directed the health, food safety, and municipal corporation teams to inspect all vendors selling fast foods and other eatables in Mohali to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation. She also instructed food safety teams to check food safety licences of these vendors, and issue hefty challans in case of any negligence.
District health officer Dr Amrit Warring added that their team collected about six samples from the premises in question and challans have been issued for violating section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. He said that as per the directions of the deputy commissioner, an extensive campaign would be launched to maintain hygiene.
"A zero-tolerance policy will be implemented against such negligence and people found indulging in such activities will be sent behind bars," he added.
The DC also urged Parminder Pal Singh, commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mohali, to curb unauthorised slaughtering.
