Tiruchi Corporation has finalised the land plan schedule (LPS) for acquisition of private lands to develop the eastern bund of the Koraiyar and the Kudamuriti into a proper road.
Under the plan, the bund of the Koraiyar from Panjappur, where the integrated bus terminus is being constructed, and the Kudamuriti to Karur Bypass will be strengthened so as to form a new road. In order to ensure speedy execution, the project has been divided into three packages.
The work under the Package-I has already been started as it does not entail land acquisition.
However, package-II requires some land acquisition. The road stretch under the package will run along Kuzhumayi Amman Temple and Srinivasan Nagar. According to sources, the Corporation is required to acquire lands from private land holdings. Most of the lands, which are proposed to be acquired, are agricultural fields.
The Corporation officials with the support of the Revenue Department have surveyed the entire stretch along the proposed road alignment from Panjapur to Karur Bypass and marked the private lands, which are to be acquired.
Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, who inspected various spots along the Kudamuriti and the Korayar along with officials of Tiruchi Corporation and various departments recently, told The Hindu that the project required a marginal land acquisition. It was estimated that it might not require more than 4.5 acres of land acquisition. The preparation of the land plan schedule had been completed. It would be sent soon to the State government for issuing a Government Order. The process of land acquisition would be expedited once the GO was issued.
As per the project, a 9.2-km road would be laid from Panjapur to Karur Bypass. It is expected that elevated carriageways will come up at five locations including Tiruchi-Dindigul highway, near Karumandapam, Kuzhumayi Amman Temple, Vayalur Road near Srinivasa Nagar. The project is estimated to cost about ₹340 crore. The carriageway would be nine metres wide.
