Mysuru: Divisional deputy director of health and family welfare, Mysuru division, Dr KH Prasad, on Wednesday emphasised the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent illegal prenatal gender determination during a divisional workshop organised by the district health and family welfare department.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Prasad highlighted that while some cases were reversed in the past, certain incidents in areas like Mandya and Mysuru require responsible action. He stressed the need to review recent trends and assess the gender ratio over the past six years to evaluate the situation. "In 2024-25, the gender ratio improved," he noted, emphasising the importance of identifying areas where such incidents occur. Dr Prasad urged the need for grassroots awareness to prevent these practices and called for transformation through legal rules and regulations.
Dr Prasad also highlighted the necessity of immediate legal action when in doubt about such cases and underlined the significance of raising awareness about the legal consequences of prenatal gender determination. He urged a deeper understanding of the issue to prevent such actions and recognised the role society plays in addressing this problem.
