Woman found charred to death near Madukkarai in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore District Police have launched an investigation after a woman was found charred to death near Madukkarai on Wednesday.

The police have identified the deceased as S. Padma, 53, a resident of Arisipalayam near Madukkarai, who had been working as a teacher in a school at Valukkuparai.

Her charred body was found at a place on Nachipalayam – Palathurai road, where people dump garbage, on Wednesday morning. People who spotted the corpse immediately alerted the police and a team from Madukkarai station rushed to the spot, the police said.

Perur Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police L. Sivakumar, Madukkarai inspector (in-charge) S. Rathinakumar and other officers visited the spot, following which the body was shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Forensic experts and the dog squad were employed at the spot.

A police officer said that Padma’s husband passed away some years ago and she had been residing with son and daughter. The woman left for school as usual on Tuesday morning and did not return in the evening. A search was launched for the woman after she did not return home in the evening. The body was spotted on Wednesday morning as efforts were under way to trace her.

“The body was found on the side of the road, which the woman usually take to commute to the school,” the officer said

The officer added that the cause of death would be known after the post-mortem examination. The autopsy will be performed on Thursday.
