Sand trader promised personal security guard cheated of Rs 64 lakh
Surat: A sand trader, Dhiru Lathiya, was cheated of Rs 64 lakhs by a father-son duo.
The accused, Jagdish Bhalala and his son Kartik, had promised Lathiya a personal security guard, along with various government perks. Lured by the offer, Lathiya handed over Rs 1.09 crores, but could not recover Rs 64 lakh.
According to police, Jagdish claimed to have uncovered a Rs 6,800 crore mining racket, and said the government promised him Rs 2,800 crores as commission. He also told Lathiya that the government would provide him with a personal security guard, loans, and car facilities. To secure these benefits, Lathiya was told he needed to pay money to the government, leading him to transfer Rs 1.09 crores in multiple transactions.
However, he only returned Rs 45 lakhs and failed to return the remaining Rs 64 lakhs. Sarthana police arrested the accused duo, charging them with cheating.
