Tamil Nadu govt. announces compensation for cattle, poultry killed by street dogs

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced compensation for farmers whose cattle and poultry were killed by street dogs.

Minister for Rural Development I.Periyasamy announced in the Assembly that the government would provide ₹37,500 for cattle, ₹6,000 for sheep/goat and ₹200 for poultry as compensation to the farmers in case the animal/bird was killed by street dogs. The amount would be disbursed from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

He said this decision was taken after detailed consultations with district collectors as incidents of cattle being killed by street dogs were reported in many places. A total of ₹42.26 lakh would be given as compensation in connection with 1,149 cattle and poultry related deaths already reported in the State, he added.
