Belagavi: The traditional vibrancy of Holi was on full display in the Old Belagavi areas of Shahapur, Vadagaon, and Khasbag on Wednesday, as residents came together to celebrate the festival of colours with great enthusiasm. In a unique tradition observed in these parts of the city, the main Holi celebrations take place on the fifth day after the Kamadahana ritual, a slight divergence from the second-day observance in other areas of Belagavi.
The festive spirit permeated the air as people of all ages and backgrounds, cutting across caste and creed lines, participated in the joyous occasion. Men, women, and especially the youth were seen gleefully applying colourful powder and water on each other, symbolising the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring.
Various forms of celebration added to the vibrant atmosphere. In some localities, rain dances were organised, providing a refreshing and fun way to revel in the colours. Simultaneously, many young people gathered in different areas, dancing to the energetic tunes of DJ music and popular movie soundtracks, turning the streets into impromptu dance floors.
Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) corporator Ravi Salunkhe expressed satisfaction over the peaceful manner in which Holi was celebrated this year. He highlighted the community's sensitivity and cooperation in maintaining a harmonious environment, particularly considering the ongoing holy month of Ramzan for the Muslim community and SSLC exam preparations.
Belagavi police implemented stringent security measures across the city to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. Their efforts contributed significantly to maintaining law and order and preventing any untoward incident.
