Security agencies probe Pak woman’s travel history
Jaisalmer: The 32-year-old Pakistani woman, who was taken into custody after crossing into Indian territory near the Anupgarh sector of Sriganganagar district Monday, was jointly interrogated by the local police, BSF and intelligence agencies in Sriganganagar Tuesday. The woman, who identifies herself as Humara and claims to be from Daghri Khan village in Balochistan's Kech district, reportedly has a history of residing in Oman.
During questioning, she claimed she was fleeing domestic violence from her husband, Wasim, a shopkeeper in Balochistan, and pleaded for asylum in India. While initial investigations have not revealed any suspicious activities, security agencies are conducting a thorough examination of her mobile phone and investigating her travel history.
"She says that she searched for the condition of women in India on Google and found that it was much better here than Pakistan. Influenced by this, she decided to escape to India," said a senior police officer. She utilised Google Map to navigate to the international border and entered India.
Sources said that the woman claimed her husband operates establishments in Balochistan and Muscat. Owing to persistent domestic abuse in Balochistan, she relocated to her parents' residence in Karachi from where she decided to flee to India. Sriganganagar SP, Gaurav Yadav said that the woman was transferred to Anupgarh police by BSF after her unauthorised entry into Indian territory at the Vijeta border post near Anupgarh.
The SP said that her psychiatric evaluation would be conducted Wednesday.
