Special teams of Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation conducted raids on several shops, which were reportedly selling single use plastic material in violation of the government imposed ban on their sale and usage. Following the directive of VMC Commissioner Palli Nallanayya, Municipal Health Officer Kondapalli Sambamurthy conducted raids in shops, located in Boddu Kalavathi junction, Kottagraharam, Gajularega, PW Market and other places, on Tuesday.

Around 490 kgs of plastic material was seized and sent to Jindal Waste Energy Plant. The officials collected around ₹49,000 as fine on the errant traders. In a press release, Mr. Nallanayya made it clear that the Corporation would seize the shops apart from material if traders were found selling the banned item. He urged people not to use banned plastic since it would be harmful for their health as well as environment.
