CM orders probe into alleged RTE violations by pvt schools

Patna: Opposition members disrupted proceedings in the state assembly on Tuesday, shouting slogans against CM Nitish Kumar and accusing reputed private schools in Bihar of failing to admit poor students in 25% of seats as mandated under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The issue was raised during the question hour by RJD MLA Lalit Yadav. CM Nitish, who was present in the House, ordered an investigation into the allegations. "My govt has been tirelessly working for the poor and weaker sections of society," he said. He then taunted the opposition by clapping and saying they were free to speak against him, but he would praise them and asked them to give their problems in writing.
Nitish asked education minister Sunil Kumar and additional chief secretary S Siddharth, both present in the assembly, to probe the matter and verify whether private schools were violating the 25% quota for underprivileged students.
As opposition MLAs stormed into the well of the House, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav warned them against disrupting proceedings or attempting to overturn the reporters' table. He asked the assembly cameramen to focus on the protesting legislators so that action could be taken against them.
Lalit Yadav demanded to know what action the govt planned against schools violating the RTE provisions. Responding to his query, education minister Sunil Kumar said, "To ensure transparency, an online admission process was implemented through the Gyandeep portal from the 2024-25 session." He added that 31,004 students had already been allotted seats in private schools for the 2025-26 session.
However, the response failed to satisfy opposition MLAs, who continued shouting slogans against the chief minister and his govt.
