Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, updated Home Minister Amit Shah on the significant progress made in the battle against Maoists in Bastar, highlighting that the conflict is nearing its conclusion, aided by recent surrenders under a revamped policy. The talks also centered around strategies to enhance development and tourism in the area, aiming to foster long-term peace and economic prosperity.
On Monday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai informed Home Minister Amit Shah about the measures his government is taking to eradicate Naxalism in the Bastar region. He highlighted that the battle against Maoists is nearing its conclusion, with the recent increase in surrenders following the introduction of the state’s new surrender and rehabilitation policy.
Sai informed the Home Minister that the Chhattisgarh government’s newly introduced surrender and rehabilitation policy—finalized just last week—has started to yield positive outcomes. The policy, which includes enhanced incentives like substantial financial rewards, educational support, and job opportunities for both surrendered Naxalites and their families, has led to 19 Maoists, including nine with bounties on their heads from Bijapur, laying down their arms.
The discussion between Shah and Sai also highlighted the urgent need to fast-track development initiatives in Bastar. The Chief Minister outlined ongoing efforts to improve education, healthcare, roads, electricity, and water infrastructure. Furthermore, strategies were deliberated to promote Bastar as a key destination for both domestic and international tourists.
