Guwahati: The Hmar Inpui and Zomi councils have jointly announced lifting of shutdown in Churachandpur with immediate effect after the district headquarters tensions on Monday over the attack on a Hmar tribal leader on Sunday.
The decision came following a meeting called by Churachandpur district administration with the apex bodies of the two communities on Monday night. In the joint statement, both councils urged the public to maintain peace and confirmed that the issue was being resolved through customary laws.
The Hmar Inpui and Zomi councils stated that they have also decided to work together and restore peace in the district.
