A leadership meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday capitalised on the current uproar regarding the alleged involvement of Left-leaning student organisations in substance abuse on college campuses to launch an accusatory campaign against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, BJP State president K. Surendran said the party would organise vigilance marches across the State from March 23 to 30 to expose the CPI(M)‘s “political cover” to “drug peddlers”.
The BJP will also mobilise the Mahila Morcha to strengthen the ranks of the agitating ASHAs in front of the Secretariat. Mr. Surendran said thousands of Morcha workers would lay siege to the Secretariat for two consecutive days on March 27 and 28.
Mr. Surendran said the BJP would campaign against the LDF and UDF’s attempt to blame the Central government for the State’s self-inflicted financial woes, including the payment of honorarium to ASHAs, Wayanad rehabilitation, failure to contain human-wildlife conflicts, and the seabed mining hoax.
The BJP would hold a public meeting in Kollam on April 5 to tell the people that the Centre had not opened the sea off the coast of Kerala to seabed mining corporations. He claimed the Centre had allowed a firm to remove a sandbar off the coast of Kollam. However, the LDF and UDF had blown the limited permit to remove sand from proportion.
The ruling front and Opposition lied to fishers that the sand removal would endanger the rich marine environment and their livelihood, he said.
